***Intro: We decided to change up just a little bit by adding a question of the day on Thursdays. Our thought process is that we hope to encourage feedback on topics that are important to you. We will then produce articles and tips based off your feedback.
Ready?
What are the top 3 workplace benefits that are an absolute must in order to consider working for that company and, if the company doesn’t provide all three, would you still take the job?

Id hav to say that the three things that i’d look out for are … medical ,dental, and a 401k… if that place of employment doesent hav all three i’d take the job only if it didn’t carry the 401 cause i hav kid’s and only want to do right by them i can make up a savings for my future on my own but i try to allways look out for them when i can..

Thanks for your feedback, Owen. The options you listed are very important to a lot of people these days. With employers cutting back on some, if not all, we are trying to gauge what are the deal-breakers for some potential employees
Thanks again!.

First and foremost would be the salary then benefits and lastly location. If a company has insufficient pay but great benefits in a ok geographic location personally its a no go.

Hi Chassidy,
Great points. Somtimes it’s a give and take, but when you are giving on something that determines if you are able to provide for your family, then it’s definitely a no-go. Thanks a bunch for your input! We appreciate your time.

Excellent breakdown WOO. Some people will turn a job down because of the location, even though it might pay well. Others might take a job with less-than-desirable pay but the benefits are on point. I remember those days of choosing…..

Health Benefits, Retirement, Tuition Reimbursement or Waiver….I’m so close to finishing school, I really need the tuition waiver morseso then reimbursement. I’m so done with school loans….dread payin them off. not tryin to make anymore. I need to stay healthy and would like retirement. But I could go without the Retirement since I have state retirement now. 🙂

Hi Dannie,
Thanks for your input. We can see how tuition reimbursement would play a major part, especially in today’s economic times. Would that be a deal breaker for you if it came down to it?

because I am caring for my son, I would need a flexible schedule or the ability to telecommute, medical/dental, and matching 401K. Honestly, I could do without the medical and 401K but I need the schedule…

Hi Nathan,
Oh this is good. We are doing an article on telecommuting and flexible schedules. I think, nowadays, that is really an issue with employees, especially those taking care of loved ones. Good point!

I would say that Medical,Dental insurance are very important to me because of my family. The company must also offer a competitive salary and a generous amount of sick and vacation time. I would consider a position that didn’t offer a generous amount of paid time off,but the medical insurance and salary are the most important.

Hi Shavonne,
Medical seems to be very important to a lot of people. It is our hope that the Feds get it together to make it easier for more companies to either keep picking up the tab or keeping the costs down for their employees, especially those with a family.

The top three benefits that a company should offer are matching or at least 50% matching 401K, paid vacation and sick leave, and comp time. Comp/Flexible time is important because it allows the freedom of taking an active part in my son’s education without having to take personal or vacation time. Because I am in the education industry I would take a job without the offer of comp time but the others are a deal breaker for me. I could save for retirement on my own like the one gentleman stated however, I think that companies that offer retirement benefits care about their employees futures.

Good points, Kenya. However, in today’s economic times, companies are looking for ways to cut costs. Usually, retirement plans, in which the employer has to contribute, is one of the first to go. Then medical. This is interesting to focus on as times get tougher and tougher. What can people absolutely live without?
Thanks for the input!

I think first off, affordable medical coverage. It sucks that some places don’t give you coverage or coverage that meets the pay you get. I don’t think some of them factor the cost of living into the added stress of medical. Secondly, I would say some type of educational benefit. Seeing how I’m still in college, it’s kinda hard to go to school, work and do anything else business associated. Finally a way to buy into stock easier. I’m a stock fanatic!! I feel that if I have stock, then I am more apart of the company. I have more of a say so I guess..if that makes sense. But if the job didn’t have all those benefits, I’d settle for education and stock; or at least a great benefiting educational option. But that’s just me.
